Again, this experience occurred in my store. One by one my customers left after I finished their individual transactions. At Aero, we are meant to connect with customers so I did exactly that. A woman approached the counter and immediately I started reading her. Something was wrong. We take customer’s email addresses and send them coupons. She gave me her email address which happened to be her first name and then her last name. Her last name was extremely difficult to try and spell without guidance.
Sky: “Jeez lady that is a hard name to spell.”
Woman: “Yeah, I know. I’ve been going with my maiden name lately.”
Sky: “Well you are who you are.”
Woman: “I know, I’ve just given up on that last name.”
Sky: “I hope that is the only thing you are giving up on.”
What I meant by that is I was hoping she wasn’t getting divorced. She just looked at me and smiled. My eyes widened as I stared back and her eyes slightly squinted. She then said…
Woman: “How did you know?”
Sky: “Does that matter?”
Woman: Whilst chuckling she answered, “I guess not.”
Sky: “You know you should really make it work.”
Woman: “Why. How?”
Sky: “You both wanted it at one point. Think about why that is. You’re a grown adult. Stop fighting. If you can’t then at least stay together for the kids.”
Woman: As she is picking up her bags to leave, “I guess.”
Sky: “Have a great day.”
If only I had more time I would explain to her the importance of commitment. The importance of a promise. The importance of not giving up. The importance of sacrifice
